PLAYGROUND
This collection was developed as my graduation thesis for the FIT ITU Dual Degree Fashion Design Womenswear program.
Inspired by an everyday object, the pop up book, I approached this project as a personal playground, a mental space I created as I stepped into my professional life.
The collection consists of two looks. The first features a jacket with a pop up book structure built into the back. These elements are detachable, and the cover panels can be closed, allowing the piece to shift between something sculptural and something more wearable.
The second look builds on an earlier idea I developed during my first year in school. It revisits a jacket that stayed with me over time, now placed within this imagined playground. It tells the story of a girl as a singer within her own world, with phrases like “I am my Barbie doll in my own playground” appearing on the garment.
Both pieces were constructed entirely by hand during the pandemic, at a time when I did not have access to a sewing machine. Every detail is hand stitched, making the process as important as the outcome.
This project pushed me both creatively and technically and became a turning point in how I approach making. It taught me patience, precision, and a deeper understanding of construction.
